The Production Formula
VISITS × PRODUCTION PER VISIT = TOTAL PRODUCTION
This formula is the foundation of everything you’ll see in Dental Intelligence. Once you understand it, you’ll see that any improvement in your performance comes from one of two things:
Increasing Visits — getting more patients into the chair.
Increasing Production per Visit — making the most of each appointment.
When you focus on these two levers, your production naturally grows.
Four Numbers to Focus On
When you first log in, don’t worry about understanding everything on the dashboard.
Start with these four essential metrics, found in the Ticker Bar at the top of your Performance Board:
Active Patients – The total number of patients who have completed an appointment in the last 18 months and are marked as “active” in your practice management system.
Pre-Appointment % – The percentage of active patients who already have a future appointment scheduled.
Future Visits – The total number of appointments booked in the future.
Production per Visit – The average production per completed appointment (for all providers) over the past 90 days.
💡 Tip: These four metrics directly connect to the Production Formula. Improving them means you’re either increasing visits or production per visit—both of which boost your total production.
